3rd Team Match Report

As predicted starting a game at 1630 was always going to be cold. After a rousing pre match talk from Chris Topham we were set for what was to become a good performance.

The first half started off to be a close game with Worksop getting a few good chances with the ball ending in the back of our goal from a short corner only to be correctly disallowed for height. We soon had a corner of our own with the team getting its first goal of the afternoon. As the game continued the Worksop team, in particular their Captain, continued to get more annoyed with the umpires and themselves which allowed us to take advantage and start to move the ball around which proved to create more chances on goal. Our forwards was soon to score another from another well worked short corner.

After losing the ball, Worksop played a side line ball well, driving down the left and into the D scoring in the right corner. (2 – 1)

With two minutes left of the first half our forward line received the ball just inside their half, and with what amounted to a good turn slipped past the defenders to enter the D. With Worksop’s players backing off the run was finished off with a well placed ball in the goal. (3 – 1)

After the half time chat from the 1st team spectators we started again the second half in much the same way, Lincoln passing the ball well, with the defence / midfield and attack all linking up well and Worksop continuing to get annoyed and frustrated.

Shame Norris McWhirter (for those old enough to remember) wasn’t there as the longest run of consecutive short corners was about to ensue, with Tim ‘Machine Gun’ Sutton having enough shots on target some were beginning to think his was trying to just give their goalie some practice, eventually after several hours (writers perception of time may be exaggerated!) Tim finally scored and also earned himself DoD . Overall a good team effort with Lincoln defence giving very little away for the afternoon. Final score being 5 – 1.
