The Ladies 1st Team always knew that this campaign, in the Premier division of the East Womens’ League, was going to be a different kind of season to the one they had last year. All is not lost, however, as victories over Wapping and Saffron Walden so far mean that only a handful of points can make a relatively big difference to their place in the table.

As Captain Caz May says herself, the results of the Ladies 2s “make some happy reading”! By far and away the team of the season to date, you simply can’t argue with a goal difference of 53 …. until you notice how close their personal battle is with Horncastle at the top of the table. There are only three points between the teams at the top of the table and three goals difference between the two sides.

The Mens 1st team are, for the first time in the last couple of years, going into Christmas with a smile. Despite a game in hand, they were still placed second in the table prior to their pre-break draw. Of their two tasks at the start of the season, consolidation now looks likely. A possible promotion push in what is a very close division remains to be seen.

Coming up from the division below last year, third place in the table for the Mens 2nd team suggest that they’re not ready to simply consolidate. With three games in hand over the top-of-the-table side, the stats on points and placing may reveal more come the end of the season.

Veterans

The (mens) Veterans team play in two competitions; the Yorkshire Cup and the England Hockey Masters Over 50’s Cup. Progress in one is looking better than the other, though it’s the higher profile of the two that’s commanding the better headlines.
