The Lincoln Juniors (and supportive parents!) donned their winter woollies and trekked out to Peterborough on Sunday for the latest instalment of the Under 12’s league. Despite the fact that there wasn’t any snow for a change, the weather was not giving the squads any respite because it was ‘blooming baltic’! Nevertheless, attendance was great and everyone was keen to play some hockey.

Team C unfortunately lost 4 matches and drew 1. However, this was certainly not an accurate reflection of their performance in the slightest. They marked fantastically throughout the day and took on board all the advice they were given, showing improvement from the first match right through to the last. Despite being the youngest team in Division 2, they also managed to get a goal on the board – well done Isobel Graham! Also, special mention to Zoe Lyttle, who seemed to get battered and bruised in every game but continued to play with fabulous grit and determination throughout.

Team B, after a slow start, improved their performance throughout the day, but sadly couldn’t put any points on the board. With each game they fought hard and defended well as a unit, meaning they gradually reduced each score line, as well as putting up a really good fight against the Lincoln Team A (despite some pre-match nerves!) A very special mention to our supersonic goalkeeper, Tom Rounsley, who played in every single match for the Teams A and B, as well as making a cameo appearance for Team C.

Team A played some very sophisticated hockey by making the most of all the players on the pitch and building up numerous effective attacks. They managed to clock up a grand total of 17 goals in their favour and didn’t concede any! Once again, thanks to their slightly more experienced side, they finished at the top of the table for Division 1. Special mentions go to Angus Graham, for his dynamic attacking play, and Libby Thorne, for ‘cleaning up’ any potential scoring chances before the opposition even made it into the ‘D’.

A big thanks to all our parents who came to cheer on the youngsters and offer their support to the depleted coaching team, Holly Reding and Steph Brennan. It wouldn’t have been possible to get our results without everyone’s help.

Well done everyone! You should all be very proud of both your individual and team performances today!
