Lincoln Roses Men's 1 Vs Sheffield Bankers
Result: 3 : 2
Goals: O’Kelly, M.White, Johnson

Report:
Saturday saw Roses 1st XI embrace the Lindum Sports Club with their first competitive fixture, the opponent Sheffield Bankers. Roses started the game very spritely, with the midfield of Johnson, Temple-Baxter, Watkins and M White, working hard to control the game, this resulted in some good chances for Pinder and Corbett, only to be stopped by an enthusiastic Sheffield goalkeeper and the framework of the goal.

After some overwhelming pressure applied by Roses saw Johnson loop a pinpoint aerial enabling Corbett to fire a decisive cross for O’Kelly to coolly deflect into the net. This was quickly followed by a well converted drag flick, from Roses, injury prone and part time player Mike White.

In the second half, Sheffield began to change the phase of the game and took control, only to be stopped by the courage and passion of the back line of Knowles, T White, Lowe, Ingram, and Leeming. The very impressive display of tackling backed up by some confident goalkeeping from Kemsley, was eventually overcome by some endless pressure resulting in two penalty corners, of which Sheffield converted them both.

Roses eventually got the game back into their hands and won a penalty stroke in the last ten minutes which Johnson, cleverly fooling the keeper with a slice into the bottom corner. Final result 3-2 win for Roses.

Overall a strong team performance for the majority of the game, resulting in a lot of chances, however Roses must recognise the phases of the game and be able to adapt when play is against them. Man of the match went to Tom White, who is quickly becoming one to look out for in the Roses squad with his consistent performances.

Squad: Gk Kemsley, Knowles, T.White, Lowe, Leeming, Ingram, Johnson (capt), M. White, Temple-Baxter, Pinder, Corbett, O’Kelly, Hill, Watkins, Dewhurst
