Gary Johnson is Coach of the Year
Gary Johnson, 1st Team Captain and Club Development Officer, has been awarded ‘Coach of the Year’ by Lincolnshire Sport. At an awards ceremony last night, held at the Lincoln Racecourse, Gary was recognised for his achievements in encouraging the playing of hockey and the impact that this has had to so many people.
The award, sponsored by Bishop Grosseteste University of Lincoln, was renamed this year after local rugby coach Michael Beard who tragically lost his life earlier this year.

In response to the events of last night Gary said “It was a huge honour to win this award. It has been won by many fantastic coaches in the past that have made a huge contribution to the lives of many in sport and its now great to be associated with those people.
“I couldn’t have won the award without the help and support of all coaches that have worked with me at Lincoln Roses Hockey Club, Lindum Hockey Club and also at GB College and England Hockey. It’s a huge team effort and I thank them all for their time and effort.
“Finally a huge thanks to my family for allowing me the time to dedicate to hockey, especially my wife who spends hours upon end looking after both children whilst I spent time have fun on hockey pitches.”
