Newark Hockey Club visited the Lindum Sports Association for a Mixed Under 18 game
Lindum hosted Newark Hockey Club last Sunday, the 15th of April, in an Under 18 Mixed Hockey friendly at The Lindum Sports Association, with the home side coming out worthy winners 6 – 0. The scoreline should have been much greater, really, as Lindum missed many chances in the various periods played.
No goals in the first quarter resulted in a slightly more determined Lindum team in the second quarter and after 20 minutes Louie Sadler opened the scoring. A further five minutes went by before Rob Johnstone slipped in Lindum’s second goal. Newark tried hard to press the home team but with many younger players they did not have the power or strength to open their scoring. Tom Rounsley in the Lindum goal only touched the ball once during this period, as most of the pressure came from Lindum.
After 14 minutes into the third quarter Lindum scored their third through Cameron Foster, and Rob Johnstone scored his second after five minutes into the fourth quarter.
At full time it was 4 – 0 and it was decided that a further period of 20 minutes be played. Two minutes into the extra time Louie Sadler scored the best goal of the games, deflecting a tremendous through ball into the roof of the Newark net, giving their excellent goalkeeper no chance. Finally after a further four minutes a well taken goal was scored by Gemma Barnsdale.
In all, a fairly polished performance by the Lindum youngsters, with their three superstar players, Louie, Rob and Cameron, giving many chances to their peers rather than score themselves. Mark Sadler, the Lindum coach was relatively happy with the all-round performance which showed off the excellent young talent that Lindum Hockey Club possesses.
Umpires were George Johnstone and Tony Perrin. Thanks to all the many supporters who came along to watch a very friendly but competitive game of hockey.
Score: 6 – 0 (Scorers: Louie Sadler 2, Rob Johnstone 2, Cameron Foster, Gemma Barnsdale)
