Yorkshire B O60s 0-2 Lindum O60s (Tony Puddick, Dave Ellis)

Lindum are once again well on the way to retaining their EH Over 60s Plate title with a good win over their county neighbours Yorkshire B Over 60s at Wakefield HC.

Ahead after the first ten minutes through ex-county striker Tony Puddick, following a goalmouth scramble and playing some steady Master’s hockey, it was looking like this was going to be a walk in the park. Then things disintegrated with poor passing and levels of skill from the Lincolnshire team, who made it very hard work. Whilst their opponents never looked likely to score, Lindum were not at their best today. Many further chances went begging and Lindum missed out on converting these to give the appearance that they were not able to capitalise on poor defending. Yorkshire competed in the game without really looking dangerous in front of goal and the teams turned round with the score still 0-1 to Lindum.

The second half continued in the same vein with Lindum still not firing on all cylinders and Yorkshire, whilst still looking occasionally dangerous, failing to get into our D with any serious goalscoring chances. At the other end the Lindum forwards and midfield were still failing to convert their chances, until Dave Ellis struck home a deflected penalty corner into the roof of Yorkshire’s net to make it 0-2. Lindum appeared safe at last and when a bad Yorkshire defensive tackle in their D in the closing minutes of the second half led to a penalty stroke it looked that like we would be in an even stronger position. Tony Wing stepped up but his flick was parried by the goalkeeper against the left-hand upright and out of danger. In some ways a disappointing performance by Lindum but a clear win in the end and they now await who will be their opponents in the Quarter Final next round and where it is to be played.
