Men’s Over 60s progress to the Semi Finals Men’s Over 60s progress to the Semi Finals

Lindum (Lincs) O60s 2-0 Staffordshire O60s (Tony Wing FG, Dave Ellis PC)

A much better display from Lindum (& Lincs) Over 60s saw them progress to the semi-finals of the England Hockey Over 60s Tier 2 Cup on Sunday at the Lindum.

Their match was the centrepiece of three Lindum matches that took place and they were the eventual winners 2–0. This score did not do justice to the number of chances Lindum had in the match and it was, once again, a story of what the score should have been with many missed chances.

Fifteen minutes into the first half following good work by the Lindum players saw Tony Wing on hand to take the ball to the side of the Staffs’ goalkeeper and slot it home. Lindum continued to be scratchy in their play but still dominated the game and there were many more missed chances. With Staffs failing to capitalise on the few they had the score remained the same until halftime and Pete Richards did well in Lindum’s goal.

In the second half Lindum again dominated the play and came very close to scoring on many good attacks. They were unlucky not to increase their lead. But, following a penalty corner decision, Dave Ellis slotted home a direct shot to make it 2–0. More chances came begging and again it was Lindum’s inability to score that made it look like Staffs were still in the game. Lindum held out in what should have been a higher scored match in their favour.

They now await their semi-final opponents from Trojans HC, Epsom HC or Cheshire, hopeful of another home draw.

Team: Billy Marwaha (Capt.), Pete Richards (GK), Dave Ellis, Andy Wright, VP, Simon Wilmot, Steve Hart, Steve Seymour, Chris Smith, Tony Wing, Jerry Dixon, Chris Topham, Sam Atkin, Mark Hotchkin, Paul Brazinskas, Tony Perrin.
