End of Season Round-Up End of Season Round-Up

Last Saturday saw the final league weekend of the hockey season, so we’re having a quick look at who did what in the teams that were close to promotion and relegation positions.

While they’ll most likely be an End of Season review at some point, covering all teams, last weekend saw its fair share of tension in the bar at the Lindum Sports Association, as everyone looked to see which teams managed to gain promotion or avoid relegation as the final cards fell in the 2016 / 2017 hockey season.

Ladies 1st Team

At the moment the Ladies 1s have technically cleared the relegation zone in the East Division 1 North, though it’s often that four teams are relegated from this division. While fingers are crossed that it won’t happen, it’ll be the narrowest margins that makes it happen as a goal difference of six between themselves and Lowestoft Ladies 1s is all that separates them from eighth place.

Despite what has, at times, been a difficult season the team have good reason to keep their chins up. Not losing since early March also gives the side some positive momentum to take into their Yorkshire Play-Off fixture in just under a month’s time.

Ladies 5th Team

Although the team were without a fixture this weekend, having already secured promotion (off the pitch) a week and a half previously, Laura Latarche’s side richly deserve their plaudits this year.

Mens 2nd Team

Grabbing their hats as the stone door to the Temple of Doom closes, the Mens 2s scraped their way of relegation by the skin of their teeth. Not only had they to gain three points from their home game against Boston Spa on Saturday, something they did with a spirited 3-2 win, but also wait on the result of the Leeds 4 v. Bradford 1 game. This went their way to keep them in Yorkshire’s Premier Division ahead of Rotherham 1 by a single point.

Ladies 4th Team

And finally … a quick note regarding the Ladies 4s whose season takes a further week to conclude as they play Goole this coming Saturday in a rearranged game from January.

I’m sure the team would appreciate support from the club at the Lindum Sports Association from noon.
